I only had the pleasure of knowing and working with John for the past 3 years. He and the also late Dave Smith were my two leasing consultants on our shopping center. They were like Ying and Yang but always fun, caring, and passionate. I did not know about John’s passing and I was really unearthed to learn of this a week ago particularly since we last talked in April and he was doing “better than ever” since beating cancer. That was John. Always positive, energetic, & dedicated. He was a man of his word and trued lived for the love of his wife and children. That is what I will never ever forget about John for lessons in my life with my wife and daughter. His boundless love for his family. God Bless you and rest and peace John Phelan.

It is so hard to believe that John is gone. He and I spoke just weeks ago about his health and work, his family and wife. We always shared our family stories and laughed at each others journeys. Life will be somewhat less exciting without John. He was so full of life and the love of family! He and I worked together while at CBRE heading up the retail division. John will be missed dearly but never ever forgotten. There are no words to express my sadness over John's passing. I have wonderful memories, most of them funny, of him from our days together at The O'Connor Group. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his wife, children and father.

John was a great friend and in many ways a co-worker in the great days of the enclosed mall era of American real estate development. We had many interesting and profitable meetings, and always kept in touch as brothers in the business. I will miss his spirit and friendship immensely. My deepest condolences to the entire family. I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I will always remember his smiling face when he visited the office...and I will always remember how much he loved Christine. Although we haven't seen each other in years, I will always remember him.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Sean's Dad. Sean is a great kid and has been a good friend to Jake. That is a testament to both you, Christine, and his Dad. I know Jake shared many laughs with him. I am glad he had the chance to know him and grateful he has a friend like Sean!

John and I were big ELP fans. After seeing them in July at the Garden, I saw they were playing in Springfiled Mass, close to Worcester. I came up for the show. We hitched a ride to the show. It was cold, snow flurries were falling. Because it was a general admission concert, we had to wait on line for a good place to stand.

We took turns going to the McDonalds next door to get warm, and a coffee. When they finally let us in, we were right in front of Keith Emerson right up to the stage front. The show was great. On the way back, we had no ride. We hitched a ride from a guy with a 2 seater sports car. John sat on my lap all the way back to Worcester. It was better than walking!

Christine: I am so sorry to hear of John's sudden & tragic passing. He was a great guy, a wonderful man to do business with and a phenomenal professional who had a work ethic like no one else I have ever met in our business. But more importantly, he always spoke so highly and with such tremendous pride when the subject of you and the kids came up, which it did nearly every time we spoke or met. He will be sorely missed.
